Eli Hasson is a trumpet player, improviser and composer based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Classically trained, Eli explores real-time composition and searches for beauty and freedom in music.
Hasson enjoys the company of the elite of Israeli musicians-improvisers - pianist Milton Michaeli, double bass player Asaf Shchori, and drummer Haggai Fershtman. In the Motian & Young covers, and in Hasson's real-time compositions, the powerful rhythm section cleverly enriches Hasson's economic, ballad-like trumpet lines and embellishes the compositions' sketchy outlines.
All four musicians perform splendidly and manage to create a coherent atmosphere throughout the entire duration... This is a most rewarding piece of modern Jazz, which eschews empty gestures and presents condensed emotional content, full of excellent musicianship and classy attitude.
The compositions opt for leisured and spacious textures, patiently exploring minimalist and melodic themes, with a reserved sense of drama and a touch of melancholia.
The music incorporates a lot of freedom, with a beautiful balance between sound and silence. The intimate trio format sets a decisive tone, which is very contemplative, reflective and even hypnotic. Hasson's trumpet playing offers a beautiful tone, which is expressive and relaxed. The trio offers aesthetic and deeply emotional vistas. The melodic continuity makes this music much more accessible to wider audiences than the usual Improvised Music fringe, and allow this music to reach many Jazz lovers, which it truly deserves.
Jakob Bro's "Strands," the album's first track featuring guest trumpeter Eli Hasson, is haunting and evocative. Hasson's trumpet and Zibziner's guitar entwine seamlessly, creating an atmospheric soundscape full of emotional resonance. "Terminal 7" ups the rhythmic drive and introduces a rawer guitar tone, complementing a spirited trumpet solo by Hasson. Zibziner's interpretation of Tomasz Stanko's piece is fresh and energetic, maintaining the composition's spirit while adding his personal touch.
